Tasting Notes:
Perfumed nose of strawberries and rhubarb, with background notes of eucalyptus and spice. Color is crimson. Nice tannins to balance the fruit and earthy flavors. This is a food-friendly pinot the delivers the elegance and interest that you expect from the Santa Rita Hills AVA.
La Encantada is a 100-acre was vineyard planted by Richard and Thelka Sanford in 2000. It is organically farmed. It sits on the hillside on the west side of the Sta. Rita Hills, with sandy, shale loam, and diatomaceous earth soils. 2013 was another blockbuster year. The summer was hot and yields were big. We picked relatively early in the season to protect the acid balance in the fruit.

"...Brilliant clean barnyard, beautiful old wood full of holes for the wind to rustle through, paint peeling, roof rusting, but still hard and dry and comfy and warm for everyone. Straw and rain and mud outside can't stop this conflagration of pie cherry soup, crushed granite and Caltrans mowing. Spicy JUST to the point of hot, watery and fresh quells all those notions, and Everlasting Gobstopper is the fruit du jour. 13.3"
